With so many vaccinated and the county opening up more, people anxious to return to the actual SR.  This is not a simple decision so long as the region remains under some restrictions. Also, the interior renovation must be completed.

May book group zoom, may 19, 2pm

Join the discussion of  poet Patricia Lockwood's unique memoir, Priestdaddy.  Yes, a Catholic priest father. Lockwood pivots from the raunchy to the sublime, from the comic to the deeply serious, exploring issues of belief, belonging, and self. Priestdaddy is an entertaining, unforgettable portrait of a deeply odd religious upbringing, and how one balances a hard-won identity with the weight of family and tradition.  Winner of several book awards, including one for humor, and placed on many best books list in 2017.

All welcome to participate. To get the Zoom invite, write to Joann Borri, joannborri@gmail.com

We hope people are still interested in writing their thoughts about HOME, even after been sequestered therein for so long. We have received only a few excellent and evocative contributions so far, including  one painting that is charming! Of homes in good times and bad. Of visiting a writer’s home.  Of the many places the writer has tried to call home.

Join in!
Remember, it can be a poem (or two), a drawing, a short essay, a play or a song, so long as gets to us by April 1 – but the sooner the better. All contributions that meet the entry requirements are accepted. Click for the Publish page to see details.

The Living Room is  “operating as a crisis center providing two meals a day, pet food, hygiene products and information services to anyone in need of help.”   85% of The Living Room funding comes from private sources. Our annual HARVEST DINNER benefit for THE LIVING ROOM ain’t happenin’ for all the obvious reasons, but we would still like to be sending them some $$ this fall and so we are asking our would be guests to  please send a tax-deductible donation directly to THE LIVING ROOM, 1207 Cleveland Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95407 by November 15, 2020 For other forms of donation, go to their website:

For any Edith Wharton fans out there:  The Sitting Room has recently received (from the late Dorothy Bryant’s personal library) a large number of books by Wharton, more than our policies (or shelves) will allow.  We would be glad to pass this bonanza on to someone who would cherish (and read!) them.
For a list of the books we have available, please send an email to J.J. Wilson at boxcar@sonic.net or telephone her at 707 705-9028.

sR house updates

9/29/2020

When the SR is once again open, be ready for surprises. The fireplace is gone, along with the piano. The toilet has been replaced. The kitchen will look different and have a microwave. Floors will change. So at least one benefit from lock-down is freedom to update the place. Thanks to all who have made suggestions.
