FACING SLAVERY AND ITS LEGACIES

18th century rice plantation slaves.
Four Thursday night meetings, 7-9 on April 12, 19, 24, and May 3. A mini-class led by Ann Neel, Ph.D. To understand "race" in this country, one begins with the institution of slavery, which was not very long ago, and continues to affect people of color on a daily basis. Everyone can benefit by looking at the history of slavery and its presence in their own ancestors' lives, regardless of one's color or heritage. Ann is a descendant of a slave holding family and looks forward to leading others on a journey in the thoughtful, supportive atmosphere of the sitting room. She will provide readings of relevant articles and book chapters.
FEE: $100, which includes $10 for the Sitting Room. Partial scholarships are available. For information, email Ann.
